Review:
It was much admired disappointing.I the first film to pieces. I own the DVD and play it on a regular movie nights with my friends. His great unexpected fun, quotable, and a visual spectacle. The characters are surprisingly sympathetic, and Depp comes roaring in like a breath of fresh air as captain is jack. The problem with the third film (and others) that they lost touch with their roots. The first film, while heavy with supernatural stuff was still pretty grounded in a fairly accurate real world. The characters were exaggerated, yes, but still believable, and above all, relatable. Their motives and situations made everything a lot of sense (ie Elizabeth who wants to marry Will, Barbossa who want to be free of the curse, Jack just wants to get a boat so he could live his life in freedom). Unfortunately, in the new films, the authors have lost contact with the first films charm. The plots are so convoluted difficult to decipher much less remember a character desires and motives. It's much less emotionally grounded. It has also become so thick in this supernatural fantasy land, that there is little connection to the real world at all. This would not have been a problem had the filmmakers not as sharp special effects and visual spectacle that think they forgot to tell a good, solid story.I this film would have been better if the authors had given a simple plot and abgeschwä ng much of the magnificent drama that really dominates the films.
